This is the best book that I have read on the Graeco-Roman context of the New Testament. This book has everything you would want to know about mystery religions, popular religions, ancient philosophy and gnosticism. A very helpful resource.

Portable Seminary

This was a very good overview of many Christian subjects by a number of well known and talented authors.  It certainly is not detailed enough to make anyone an expert in any subject but it is helpful for developing the big picture and introducing areas of interest.
